Why do Therapy in Nature?

The natural outdoor environment is a powerful therapeutic tool!

The outdoors help restore our attention

  • Distractions are all around us in our fast-paced, digital world and our children’s attention is suffering because of it! Nature helps to build our focus and relax our minds.

Real challenges to build confidence

  • It is important for our children to learn to assess risk and build confidence through facing real life challenges. We build these skills through play working with nature to overcome new, unexpected situations. This helps them become more flexible and resilient!

Build meaningful connections

  • Research proves that time in nature builds social skills such as empathy and compassion. As we connect to the world around us, we are able to better connect to our friends and family!

As owner and lead therapist of Wild Roots OT, I am thrilled to share my passion for nature and holistic health/childhood development with your family! I have been working as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist for 5 years with an abundance of experience working with children and families to support childhood development through a play-based approach. I have a wide range of professional experience working with pediatric, adult, and geriatric clients with a range of developmental, neurological, orthopedic, and mental health diagnoses which informs my practice.

I live with my husband and our young son nestled in the foothills of the Smokies. Both having grown up in Florida, we aspired for a life in the mountains where our children could run wild in the woods, free to explore and play.

It is my goal in creating Wild Roots OT to provide families a place to find support and strategies to help them thrive. I desire to provide kids and families with the therapy services that they deserve that are evidence-based, family-centered, and rooted in play and connection. I center my practice with an intentional relationship model, meaning that I believe that connection through meaningful relationship is a key piece to achieving your families therapy goals.

I am a life-long nature enthusiast and have grown in my passion for the outdoors as I have experienced first hand the healing that comes from being in nature. As a mom to a toddler, I have witnessed the was that prioritizing connection with creation has been instrumental in his development. Through my experience and pouring over the overwhelming research, I have come to the need to do therapy differently.

Our kids need real, authentic childhoods. Connection with nature. Secure attachment with caregivers. Freedom to play.

I created Wild Roots OT to be a resource and a community where families can find peace in the chaos and uncertainty that comes with childhood delays, disorders, etc. through evidence based strategies and support!
